Nissan Corporation was a first time sponsor to the Olympic Games. Their Olympic pavilion was meant to be a major strategic initiative to align the brand more closely in the hearts and minds of Americans. We suggested a tribute to the Olympians themselves. We designed and built a historic monument entitled the United States Olympians Rings of Fame. It was a 50 foot long tribute with the names of every American that had participated in the Olympics since its inception. All Olympians were included whether they medaled or not. We also included the members of the 1980 Olmpics who were selected to participate but were not allowed because of the United States boycott with Iran. An Olympic historian, C. Robert Paul hailed it as the most significant corprorate sponsorhip in the history of the Olympic Games and the leading Atlanta newspaper called it the most meaningful exhibit.
